Virginia is famous for its beauitful mountains and award winning wine, so we spent an afternoon enjoying both.
As the shuttle bus picked us up at the office, we enjoyed the scenic drive through Virginia's countryside. Our first stop was Swedenburg Vineyard in historic Middleburg. Mrs. Swedenburg personally gave us a tour and showed us the winemaking process up close and personal! After the tasting, we boarded the shuttle for Chrysalis Vineyard, where we enjoyed a catered lunch on the spectacular 209 acres of Locksley Farm alongside the banks of the Hungry Run in Loudoun County.
The Vineyards and Winery are located on the pre-Revolutionary estate, "Waverly", three miles south of Middleburg, Virginia in the rolling hills of northern Fauquier County. Construction on the manor house, now registered as a Virginia Historic Landmark, was begun in the mid-18th century, around 1755 or so. It was nearly complete in its present form by the late 19th century. Allowed to fall into disrepair in the early 1900's, it was fully restored in 1942 and the property operated as a dairy farm until 1973, when the winery was established
