Robert O. Williams, P.E. and Kenneth V. Notaro, P.E. , the founding principals of Williams Notaro & Associates, Inc. (WNA), identified the need for competent, creative, and top quality engineering services for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In 1996 Mr. Williams and Mr. Notaro combined their talents and started WNA. Located in Arlington, Virginia, WNA initially employed a total staff of 4 and leased office space from a well know high quality interior architectural firm know then as "Intraplan", now Fanelli McClain Design Studios (FMDS). The combined services of both independent but co-located companies offered a complimentary blend of architectural and engineering services through a strategic alliance between the firms.
WNA immediately began work on challenging projects such as a 44,000 square foot fast-track renovation project for NASD and the Circulation Department for The Washington Post (a 45,000 square foot, total renovation project with a construction cost of over $2.5 million). In addition, WNA supported FMDS

on many of their more difficult and technically demanding projects and also served as technical experts in a forensic study of a project in Sri Lanka.
Since the beginning, WNA has maintained and continuously improves its Quality Control (QC) Program. The QC program is also promoted and maintained by Fanelli McClain Design Studios and the two independent firms regularly perform joint QC meetings to further improve the quality of both of the firms services and documents. The opportunity to work directly with the in-house architects and designers, as well as several other talented architectural firms, has helped WNA's staff appreciate the many facets of the design of the project beyond the technical engineering realm of a facilities project.
WNA's strategic business plan, attention to the details, and an uncompromising approach to the highest quality construction documents and services quickly resulted in a reputation for excellence. Based on recommendations from clients and contractors, WNA carefully added staff to accommodate the growing workload and the many requests from the clients.
By controlling growth and carefully hiring only the best technical staff members who share the quality management philosophy of the Principals and the dedication to serving our clients, WNA has grown without compromising the quality service. More than 70% of WNA's work is from "repeat" clients who recognize the staff's abilities and request the firm's services for all of their projects.
