JULY 2006 INSTALLATION BLOOPER

The possible responses are listed below, with the correct response in bold.

    The pipe hanger prevents lateral movement of the duct.

    The supply air leaking from the duct prevents condensation on the pipe hanger.

    The hanger rod inside the ductwork provides better mixing of the supply air by generating vortexes in the air stream that eliminate temperature stratification over the cross sectional area of the ductwork.

    This photo shows ductwork penetrated by a pipe support. Ductwork should never be penetrated by any building component, as leaky ductwork results in excessive energy use, poor system performance, and temperature and ventilation control problems.
