SEPTEMBER 2006 INSTALLATION BLOOPER

For a closer look, click on the photo below (bottom left) to see the September installation blooper.

The possible responses are listed below, with the correct reponse in bold.

The metal tracks are not parallel which prevents the unit from being easily moved around the mechanical room.

The "fiber vibration isolation board" should not be installed in two separate pieces if optimum vibration isolation is to be achieved.

Wheels should always be provided on mechanical equipment to allow the janitorial staff to move the units to facilitate cleaning of the mechanical room floor. This also saves the expense of pouring concrete housekeeping pads.

Proper equipment installation is critical to maintenance, equipment service life, operator safety, and proper operation of mechanical equipment. Equipment should be installed on properly sized vibration isolators and should be restrained from movement to insure that noise and vibrations are not transmitted into the building structure and that the equipment cannot move and create a hazard for personnel or damage to surrounding areas.
