SPRING 2009 INSTALLATION BLOOPER

For a closer look, click on the photo below (bottom left) to see the Spring 2009 installation blooper.

The possible responses are listed below, with the correct reponse in bold.

Gaps in ductwork connections are good as they provide conditioned air to ceiling plenums and other unoccupied areas to maintain proper ventilation and temperature control.

The high velocity air from this gap in the connection to the flexible duct provides comfort cooling for maintenance staff working in the ceiling plenum.

Ductwork seams and joints are a handy place to store pens, screwdrivers, pliers, and other tools when working in a ceiling plenum.

"White noise" generation systems are not required because the same result can be achieved by installing a leaky duct system. The continuous hissing noise provides an inexpensive means of sound masking.

Supply air duct leakage is often the main cause of poor HVAC system performance, comfort complaints, and high energy usage. Supply duct systems should be carefully inspected regularly and any leaks promptly fixed to maximize the efficiency of the ductwork system, reduce energy costs, and maximize the cooling and heating capacity delivered to the space.
